Barbera

Barbera

With Nebbiolo the elder, and Dolcetto the younger, Barbera is the middle child of the noble Piedmontese red family. Though planted widely throughout Italy, and indeed the world, Barbera is at its finest in Piedmont. Given to expressive fruit, low tannins and vibrant acidity, Barbera takes to barrel well and is capable of both immediate enjoyment and medium to long-term ageing. Expression can vary from the juicy and fragrant to the monumental, depending on site. Barbera also has a significant application in blends, providing intensity of fruit and acid where it may be lacking.
