A short drive from Alba, along the winding roads that lead through the eastern hills of the Langhe and into the Barbaresco zone, in Frazione San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, is the property of Marco and Vittorio Adriano. Along with prime vineyards, the 22-hectare estate (including property in Neive) is also devoted to two of Piedmont’s emblematic crops: hazelnuts and white truffles. And with almost half the land given to meadowland and wild forest, the property feels far more quaintly bucolic than it does agricultural.

The Adrianos have been producing wine for many generations as share-farmers, but it was Marco and Vittorio’s grandfather, Giuseppe, that first purchased a small farm and started planting new vines with the help of his son Aldo. Marco and Vittorio have carefully continued this expansion, but most importantly have revolutionised the production of wine at the estate. The cantina is a bespoke affair, constructed out of recycled bricks and rocks from the local area, with a naturally cooled cellar for ageing wine in bottle. The Adrianos use stainless steel for fermentation and maturation of some of the wines, but only use medium to large format traditional oak otherwise. Consistent with Marco and Vittorio’s passion for their land and the responsible and careful management of it, they also source their electricity from their own solar panels.
