Moscato
There are four Muscat varieties that are readily identifiable in Italy: Moscato Bianco (Muscat à Petits Grains); Moscato Giallo (Goldmuskateller); Moscato Rosa (Rosenmuskateller); and Moscato di Alessandria (Muscat of Alexandria) or Zibibbo. Giallo and Rosa make rare, though fascinating and flavourful dessert wines in Alto Adige, while Zibibbo is famous for the straw wines of Pantelleria in the south. Moscato Bianco is perhaps best know of the four as the sole variety of Moscato d’Asti. Naturally fragrant with aromas ranging from the floral, including orange blossom and rose petal, to stone fruit, sherbet and musk.
