Grecanico

Grecanico Dorato

Although Grecanico Dorato is grown almost exclusively in Sicily, it is in fact genetically identical to the primary grape of Soave, Garganega, where it occupies more than double the vineyard land of the Sicilian plantings. Although a link between the varieties had often been speculated it has only been in the last decade that the kinship was scientifically confirmed. Grecanico appears as single varietal bottlings in a number of denominations, as well as contributing to various blends. Grecanico, or Garganega, depending on your viewpoint, is also thought to be a parent of Sicily’s most widely planted variety, Catarratto.
