Greco

Greco

There is some contest as to whether or not the Grecos of the South are one variety appended with the name of their location, are sub-varieties, or indeed are different but for their Greek ancestry. Whatever the truth, Greco di Tufo is the most distinctive, certainly benefiting from the volcanic soils of Avellino. Until the intercession of Mastroberardino in the mid 20th century, Greco di Tufo was headed for the autochthonous scrapheap, today it presents as one of Italy’s finest white varieties. The wines tend to be deep in colour, full flavoured with a range of orchard fruit and citrus, with refreshingly bright acidity and light phenols.
