Friulano

Friulano

Until recently, known as Tocai Friulano, but truncated to avoid confusion with the Tokaji of Hungary, Friulano is one of Italy’s more interesting white grapes. As the name suggests, Friulano predominantly finds its home, if not necessarily its uncertain origins, in Friuli. Though speculated to share an ancestry with Sauvignon Blanc, the aromatic elements tend to be in a dry herbal, rather than green, spectrum and are supported by subtle floral notes. Though acidity is generally bright, finished wines will often have pliable texture and moderate generosity.
