Situated in the commune of Bertinoro near the Adriatic coast, in the east of Emilia-Romagna, the family-run Tenuta La Viola is a Sangiovese specialist, producing wines from the effortlessly approachable to the profound and structured.

Situated in the commune of Bertinoro near the Adriatic coast, in the east of Emilia-Romagna, the family-run Tenuta La Viola is a Sangiovese specialist, producing wines from the effortlessly approachable to the profound and structured.

Working with legendary oenologist Beppe Caviola, La Viola produce four Sangiovese cuvees: the ‘Oddone’, which is sourced from the estate’s youngest vines and only sees stainless steel for fermentation and maturation; the ‘Colombarone’ – perhaps the estate’s most emblematic wine – which is fermented in steel and matured in a combination of tank and second-use barriques for 6 months; the ‘P. Honorii’ Riserva, which is made up of the best and most concentrated grapes, and ismatured for 14–16 months in new barriques and tonneaux; the last wine, ‘In Terra’, is fermented and raised in buried amphora. In addition to the Sangiovese-based wines, La Viola also makes a classically dry and sapid white from the local grape Albana, as well as one on skins that is raised in amphora buried in the ground.
