Situated in the commune of Bertinoro near the Adriatic coast, in the east of Emilia-Romagna, the family-run Tenuta La Viola is a Sangiovese specialist, producing wines from the effortlessly approachable to the profound and structured.

Working with legendary oenologist Beppe Caviola, La Viola produce three Sangiovese cuvees: the ‘Oddone’, which is sourced from the estate’s youngest vines and only sees stainless steel for fermentation and maturation; the ‘Colombarone’ – perhaps the estate’s most emblematic wine – which is fermented in steel and matured in a combination of tank and second-use barriques for 6 months; and the ‘P. Honorii’ Riserva, which is made up of the best and most concentrated grapes, and is matured for 14–16 months in new barriques and tonneaux.

In addition to the Sangiovese-based wines, La Viola also make a classically dry and sapid white from the local grape Albana.
