Castagnoli is a small historic estate in Castellina in Chianti, in the central west of the Chianti Classico zone. Castagnoli has been farmed according to strict organic principles for over 40 years, but under the two-decade long ownership by Alfred Schefenacker these principles have been made even more stringent – including Biodynamic practices – with the aim of refining the estate into the very top tier of Chianti producers.

Elevation is a key to the style here, with the relative cool of 400–450 metres providing elegance and balance, while the notably calcareous and decomposed quality of this particular patch of Galestro soil imbues the wines with distinctive chalky minerality that is framed by the transparency of classical élevage in large-format oak.
