Colmello di Grotta
In 1965, Luciana Bennati founded Colmello di Grotta, restoring an abandoned farmhouse to accommodate a small but modern winery, a barrel room, a tasting room and lodgings for staff and guests. Her focus was intimate, but with the highest quality aspirations. Upon her death, her daughter, Francesca Bartolotto, inheriting the enthusiasm and drive of her mother, took charge and continues to refine the estate towards the top tier of Friulian producers.
With vineyards split between the zones of Collio and Isonzo, Colmello di Grotta produces two styles of wine that reflect the quite different nature of the two terrains. The limestone, chalk and gravel soils of Isonzo produce intense, fragrant wines with elegant structures, while the marl and sandstone of Collio generates complex aromatics laced with minerality, supported by profound textural palates.
