Riesling

Riesling

Riesling, or Riesling Renano (as opposed to Riesling Italico aka Welschriesling), is not widely grown in Italy and, not surprisingly, is mostly found in that most Germanic of Italian regions, Alto Adige. There are also some very fine examples from Piedmont and Friuli, though the Südtirol generally seems to have the greatest affinity with the ‘Germanic’ varieties, Sylvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Kerner, Veltliner (both Grüner and the lesser, Frühroter Veltliner) and Riesling.
